While I didn't buy my HTC Android because it "looked nice," I did buy it because it was the most iPhone-like phone experience at Sprint at the time. I now pay for that decision everyday (iOS 1.0 puts Android 2.2 to shame) and cannot wait for my contract to be over. Steve Jobs would put someone's head on a pike in front of 1 Infinite Loop if Apple ever released an OS this half-baked. Say what you will about Apple's walled garden, but the Android market is more like a flea market complete with grifters. I've given up buying apps after too many that caused frequent crashes.

i also wonder if the new systems are really future proof or if hybrid systems like this will in a few years be not compatible. also how will windows run on a system like this? what about games that usually expect a certain hardware setup?

I think this may be one of those stories where the media make it sound much bigger than it is. A load of lawyers will make a ton of money and the two companies will come to some sort of licensing agreement or Apple will get a discount on some of the parts they buy.

Also it couldn't work with my iPod. It seems to be only Microsoft only files. That was the deal killer for me. I didn't mind the overly complex remote or the Windows virus operating system.

For those freaking out, do they know that every GPS devices record their positions from the moment they are first turned on ?
It is scary, but unfortunately it's quite common.
In the best of cases (in the GPS world) the information is encrypted... But this only happens with a few GPS, usually those made for high-end auto brands (Porsche, BMW etc.) the majority of devices, on the other side, records the information in plain text.

For me I rather buy DVDs or wait for hi definition downloads, but I guess many people out there are satisfy with lower quality.

Neither -- My download on my 4MB cable connection (real speed) took about 50 minutes AND the quality was outstanding on my 30" cinema display -- looked the same as DVD to me. No defects, no artifacts. Crisp Color.
I will order again. Way nicer than storing DVD's.

I just posted earlier today about how I was waiting for the Apple iPhone to upgrade my RAZR... but honestly thats it?
I feel like the only one who looks at that design and says "blah". Its a horrible design for a phone. Its a nano with a bigger screen. Thats it. There are 1000 phones out there now that look just like this.
I can't believe this is what we've been waiting for years and god knows how much in R&D for?
I'm a much bigger fan of the iChat Mobile. (I know its fake but its a much better idea than this. Granted it needs some work too...)

I've seen some posts about transferring "that much data" in disbelief. I calculate that a two hour movie will no more about 450MB. I hope it is, of course. This is based on a 1-hr episode of Lost is about 200MB. I fudge in 50MB for the fact that each Lost episode never is EXACTLY 1 hour.
I can transfer that size (450MB) from my ReplayTV wirelessly to my PowerBook in less than a half hour with my Airport Extreme Basestation.
So... I see no problem. Perhaps the show will be delayed a little but not more than a few minutes

None of iTMS's current video content has any commercials. Why would you expect anything different for features?
I beg to differ. Various episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse I have bought have had ads/trailers for other Playhouse Disney shows (Little Einsteins, Higglytown Heroes) tacked on to the end of the show. I just checked my iPod and they added two minutes of ads to then end of a 24 minute show.
EDIT: FWIW I know that it's not Apple who put the ads there, it's Disney, but that doesn't change the fact that the files took 8% longer to download and are 8% larger on my HDD because they included 2 minutes of ads in each episode I bought for $2 and they don't offer a season pass. :mad:

Look up the thread "Your perfect 2012 Macbook pro," (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1122404) pretty much everyone who mentions USB wants USB 3.0. There is no reason not to include it. People don't want their peripherals to be useless several years down the road. Or have to buy an adapter.
I've heard so many people justify the price of a mac on the "you get what you pay for" well a cheap adapter is going to crap out on you sooner of later. And really, people buy high end devices to lug a bag of adapters around lets see (minidisplay port to DVI, HDMI, digital; Thunderbolt to USB 3.0, e-sata, other ports such as audio ports) That's 5 adapters, that needs a bag (and no these things are more than an inch).
I personally think that Thunderbolt will become popular (just as minidisplay is) but that it will take a while. I wish I had in on my computer. If its supported natively then it is very likely that it will become more common.
If you seriously think that they will deliberately not put USB 3.0 on their Ivy Bridge computers then there is no sense arguing with you. Why would they not? Its not that they have anything to lose?
Personally, I think that the reason they did not put in the refreshed Macbook pros is that it would require a separate PCI slot and take up space that they do not have.

Currently the fastest SSD drives are way more than enough for the average user who does not need gigabyte files in 2 seconds. Speed is limited to the slowest component in the data chain which for many will be the hard drive. I mean most back up their data to a mechanical drive and not a SSD simply because of the cost, external SSD will become popular but these speeds aren't going to be needed for a while.

I also fear Apple's ridiculous 10.6.7 downgrade was somehow to show the MBA's IGP isn't as bad as it is going to be with SB IGP. Look at OpenGL performance on it, as it dropped 30% from 10.6.6. Now, we have seen Apple screw these things up before, but they also market their new products based upon prior products and list an OS X version tested on the prior gen. If they reverse course with 10.6.8 or 10.7, in the new MBA, then they might show only a 20% loss in IGP performance vs. the prior Nvidia 320m... when in reality, it might be more like a 50% plus loss in performance.

I'm currently using one that my work purchased for me, but am not sure that I could justify buying one on my own just yet.
The buying guide here shows an average of 215 days between releases. However, the latest release was something like 300+ days, so time seems to be increasing.
That said, a new release would be due between late september and mid december.
My guess is that this revision will be the one that finally pushes me over the edge. Why?
- They will almost certainly fix the stupid sharp edge
- The CPU will be fast enough for anything I need for a long time
- It will be the new generation of chassis
- Ivy bridge for lower heat/power consumption
- Lion will be released. I don't want to pay for that upgrade and I absolutely need resizable windows from all edges.
What worries me the most is:
1. Will the 13.3" get discrete graphics? If yes, I'll buy
2. Will the screen be IPS? Probably not a dealbreaker, but important.
