An $800 difference in 2.66 to 3.0 GHz Xeon?
Actually, look at the Dell Precision 490 Workstation - going from dual 3.0 (Intel 5160) down to a dual 2.66 (Intel 5150) is $410/processor, or an $820 difference in price. Not Apple pushing that one.
I'm guessing any 8-core machine will initially be a top-entry (ala "fastest") if it is introduced too soon, and not affect the whole lineup. Otherwise I will have more trouble convincing myself to buy the dual 3.0 now :). That Mac + iPod promo ends this week!

I have a return rant for you: People that tailgate me. I have a 340hp car, so whatever speed I'm doing, I'm probably doing for a good reason.
No, I'm not going to pull over on a 25mph, really bumpy one lane street so you can roar by at 5 over the speed limit.
I think proper etiquette for passing is ONLY to flash your high beams a few times. If that doesn't work, take a chill pill man - there's just not much you can do about it at the time. Tailgating is an offense that should be punishable by a tazering or something, it's unsafe and idiotic among other things

No, it doesn't. This is for phones like the ROKR and some other recent Motorolas that run a version of iTunes.
BTW this probably explains the nano firmware "revelation" too, we're probably looking at several applications (iPod, nano, ROKR, and other firmware) built from the same code base.

Yes, Windows has APIs to set affinity masks (a mask representing a set of one or more cores) at both the process and thread level. Thread affinity must be a subset of process affinity.
The task manager lets you set that from the GUI.

Because they didn't redesign the MBP. It is the same 13" unibody MBP they have had since the first 13" unibody MBP. Because of that, everything is exactly the same as it was. It has nothing to do with the capabilities of the video chipset. Seriously the 13" MBP can run a 27" ACD.
They could have still changed LCD panels without needing a redesign.
I may definitely be looking into an 11" MBA later this year if they do come out with SB and thunderbolt. As long as the battery life is the same or better.

That'd be very nice, but I think that's too niche for Apple to get into. Although Apple does take its photography seriously, it only really produces hardware that is versatile and can be used for many different tasks - i.e. although the Mac Pro is serious photograhpy equipment, it can also be serious movie editing or CAD equipment. Infact, I can't think of any hardware made by Apple that is specifically photography directed.
Then again, there's nothing to say they won't break the habit of a lifetime.
While I have nothing to back up this idea beyond wild speculation, it makes sense if you think about it for a while.
I used the name "Aperture.iPod" just for this thread. I think the APerture features would be targeted to special audience, but even the Photo uploading features (plus integration into iPhoto) would give it the broader appeal you correctly discuss.

While the updated 5G iPods announced today will be able to play the new format, there has not been any indication from Apple of yet that the new shows will be playable on older 5G iPods. Apple's official knowledge-base article still states that h264-encoded movies must be 320 x 240 at 30 fps."
So why will Apple start selling a video size that isn't designed for the current iPod? While it could be for the "iTV" device, I'd image that is a bit too small a resolution to get people excited about. And even if it is, why start selling it 6 months before the device ships?
3. If Apple was to introduce a new Video iPod with a larger screen, this new larger box would allow a number of things that can''t fit on a small iPod and are perfect for both video AND photography - a large 640 x 480 screen, FW or USB2 connections, and potentially CF/SD card slots (or at least an IO for a fast adapter via the USB2 connection.)
Hence my conclusion (based on pure speculation) - all these things point to a dual use device. Handheld, but larger than normal iPods, and suitable for both consumer video playback AND photography.
What better place to introduce this than the biggest consumer photo show in the world?
Then again, there's nothing to say they won't break the habit of a lifetime.

because you are beholden to the content people for how long they want that content to be streamable. See loss of Dexter on Netflix as an example (or even the rolling expiration of movies).

Yes, this experience will probably be very traumatic for him. Having killed someone is tough enough, but the second-guessing and accusations might go on forever. Unfortunately.
Lot of stress for little money. Actually, it would be nice to see Apple step in and help out here. They do after all have other stores in other malls that need protecting, and the guards might be comforted to know Apple has their backs.
If you read the linked article you will see that the guard exchanged gunfire with the 2 male suspects. It's not excessive to try to save your own life...

No more than $2,499/ �1,799. With the amount of internal room you would get behind a 23" monitor, Apple would have no problem putting in 4 RAM slots and a fast GPU (but I doubt Apple would do a fast GPU anyway).

Just FYI: It seems that Merom will ship at speeds from 1.66 to 2.33 GHz, the 1.66GHz and 1.83 GHz have 2 MB cache, and 2GHz and faster all have 4 MB cache. Prices seem to be identical to the current Yonah prices (except the 2.33; there is no 2.33 GHz Yonah). So I would expect that all Yonahs will be replaced with Merom at same clockspeed, and that means 4MB cache except for the low end MacBook and possibly MacMini.

I still think Apple will go MVNO [Mobile Virtual Network Operator] and sell it exclusively though Apple Stores and "Stores Within A Store" (CompUSA, Circuit City, Best Buy, Fry's, Microcenter) - it will most likely be LEASED time from Cingular.
For those wanting it on another service like TMobile or SunCom in the US ... it's almost a certainty that someone will come up with a way to unlock it within a few weeks of release. (maybe even a few days)

+1. Why I upgraded from my early 2009 15" MBP to my new 2011 15" MBP. Form was already awesome but I wanted a machine that was on par speed-wise with my 2008 MP.
Thinner, no optical...perhaps SSD only?
SSD on a per GB basis is still way too expensive. For those of us doing media work big hard drives are still needed. Now, a good solution are the current line-up of Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drives.
