Don't blame Apple at all, I just have a hard time getting excited about hardware that can't do what I need it to do. Looking forward to a Universal app from Adobe and Macromedia so I can be excited about Apple's offerings.

I'm typing this on my iBook G4, which is perfectly good for me for the next couple of years - don't need anything better. Doesn't stop me from getting excited about the new machines! Especially when I work day-to-day programming on a cruddy beige box Win2k machine.

I'm actually more interested to see what Leopard brings - all the supposed rumors so far have turned out to be speculation. Tiger was a bit meh to me - spotlight and dashboard really doesn't do it for me. Hopefully Leopard will have a bit more innovation!

My thought exactly. They would also avoid pissing off 11 million Verizon iPhone customers.

Hadn't thought of that. Also a good point.

Having said all this, Apple often points out that they don't worry about their competition, they just do their own thing and let the market sort it out.

But the decision as to when you release the LTE iPhone will be one of the bigger ones they make in the next few years. Too soon, not enough infrastructure/buyers; too late, you may lose ground to rivals.

The one thing you can say about Steve Jobs, however, is that he has a very good sense of timing. He generally seems to know when the technology is ready to meet the expectations of consumers. I'm guessing he'll make the right call here again.

yes there is a problem. because it's unencrypted and everyone with access to your phone can read the information. the software tool they published showed my travel of the last 6 month quite accurately.

I don't want someone picking up my phone from my desk at work and find out what trips to what company I did. (it works internationally btw)

also I don't think the IRS or other tax collection agencies need to know when I was where.:D

Fair enough, but hardly the same as Apple acting as big brother (not that you made that claim).

just out of curiosity, what type of work?

Lots of places require antivirus software installed to access their internet. I'm at uni and no mac or pc will get internet access unless they pass a test with valid and up to date antivirus. I think it's a good thing, even for mac users, as it limits the amount of viruses that are passed on.

We get McAfee on a uni license, but this might make me consider Sophos instead if it's lighter on system resources (the only thing I don't like about antivirus software...)

The fact that they are now suing Samsung, and waited this long, might give validity to this theory, as they did not want to sue them while Sammy was still a key supplier for them.

    Something to think about.

Actually Apple just recently got granted those designs for iOS and iPhone 3GS, they were waiting for US Patent Office to approve them.

Vote for "Undecidable because of the rubbish typography".

    Exactly.

To avoid the 'implied' multiplication, it should be shown as below.

The answer is then obviously "2".

Just as the heroes began to look around the closet, the torch flickered and its life left. They huddled together in the darkness for a second until they heard the click of Rosius' staff on the floor and saw its head come to life, casting a dim blue light fainter than the torch's.

They began walking around the room, sticking to the wall on their left. Rhon, Loras and Jorah all wore looks of determination after they had just lost their dear but foolish friend Wilmer. Dante and Beatrice hung close to Rosius who led them around the room. It wasn't long before they realized they were back were they started, and the door in was also the door out.

Just as Dante let out a sight of frustration, Rosius turned his head to study a line in the bricks that they had just passed. As he scrutinized it further, he realized it was no ordinary wall, so he gave it a light shove. The wall moved, stone biting against stone as it kicked up dust while it swung inward.

Inside, gleaming in the staff's blue light, was a solid gold cylinder with two spheres making up its base.

    "It's a weapon!" exclaimed Jorah.

"No," Loras interjected "I think it's a sceptre of some sort."

"Who cares what it is" Rhon declared. "It's gold."

The heroes have found a treasure and leveled up.

Yeah a 1024 x 1024 icon is amazing considering I would bet a significant amount of 1024 x 768 monitors are still being used. Imagine not being able to view an icon in its entirety on a five-year-old monitor!

Indeed they are, and still being sold today.
    They are called iPad's ;)

For all who are saying Merom is not necessarily better..64 bit who needs it/no apps for it....marginally faster....waste of time waiting for it. We know we dont NEED it but we still WANT it.

Think of your cellphones they have tons of features most of us hardly use but we still like the fact that we have those features should we need em. Its ancient geek behaviour we want the best/fastest/superior no matter how marginal or ridiculously illogical/impractical.

I want line items on every single thing spent.

This is my favorite visualization of the budget. http://wallstats.com/deathandtaxes/

However it sounds like you might just want to read the budget itself. It's only ~200 pages long: http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy11/index.html http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy11/pdf/budget.pdf

Unless that's not enough detail for you.

Up until about a year or so ago, Cingular used to have the worst network. And the Verizon network was mint. Great signal everywhere on earth and never lost a call. Now I have to try every call 4 times before it goes through. I'd rather see Apple buy up another carrier and own them. How much does a small cellular carrier cost to buy? :-)

umm what the hell are you talking bout. / means divide plan and simple. No assumption are being made.
In higher level class you go dot see that - with dots above and below it in anything more than maybe text books and even then it is not that common.

/ is not clear, how far does the division extend? Exactly as we see here. Using _ is much more clear. The best notation would be ( ... )^-1

People can talk about PEDMAS, order of operations etc but that is kiddies stuff really. Nobody ever used / during my chemistry degree, none of my tutors or lecturers spent time talking through PEDMAS and the like. Using _ or to the power of -1 is much clearer. It's even more confusing if you use / when there is another division in the denominator.

EDIT- I'm not talking about , I'm talking about using / or _

Can someone post the updated chart on which OS is making more profit, not only for the company behind the OS, but for developers?

As much as I want Android to succeed, being a google fan, the OS along with the app store(s) and apps are not on the same level as iOS.

As a consumer, I could careless if Android has 99% of the market, I want the best ecosystem.

Nokia/Symbian dominated the phone market, at least worldwide, they are doing what now? As they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Apple has been doing just fine for the last 10 years or so sticking to its devoted followers, they are not going to start releases 10 iPhone versions to compete to save their market share. But I'm going to guess they will continue to pull in the most cash.

It could be simple as having two tabs..one for the music store and the other for the movie store.

By that logic you could tab all of iLife in one app. Or tab the entire Adobe suit in a single window.

Movies and music are different media with different means of consumption, different lengths, different technology, different file sizes, different meta-information etc. etc.

Whatever their solution it has to be "as good as" two apps, almost non of the same rules apply to movies as do to music.

when setting up a mac, I got an Apple ID(which is my itunes account) and its just a username not an email address

I'm not impressed if this is where the iMac display is potentially going , the current GPUs can barely drive the resolutions they have now in anything other than simple desktop apps . , can you imagine what video card you would need to drive a game (say portal 2 which has low to modest requirements) at 30fps + on a screen with 3200 or higher resloution ? Well whatever that GPU is , apple will ship with the one released 2 years ago and half the RAM it shipped with on the PC .

I love the mac OS , I love the mac design , I hate the "last years tech with a shiney shell" we seem to have to put up with , super high res screens and faster I/O ports are all well and good , but put a decent GPU in now the mac is becoming a contender as a home gaming platform .

Think I ranted a bit then , sorry

If Apple get it right it will be the fashion phone of choice.

What will be really great is that, in addition to the above, something that is the critical factor as it was with iPod, it will also sync beautifully with Apple contacts, calendars, etc., driving more people to purchase Apple computers, even though I do expect that they will also bundle a nice piece of Windows software (a must).

Apples are already climbing in sales and many of my Windows-using friends are considering Macs for the first time now, not because of all the stuff endlessly debated here, but rather because the iMac and MacBooks are so bitchin'.

Steve Jobs is indeed finally capitalizing on "taste", an obcession of his from the early days. He was right when he said in the 80s that "the problem with Microsoft is that they have no taste. I mean that in a big sense." Now his company is poised to take a large portion of Microsoft's sales by exploiting that vulnerability.

People aren't realizing that OS X is better. They are falling in love with the new stylish Macs, obscure objects of desire. The fact that they are getting better and better, and that they are making a line of easily interoperable products (much more of this to come in the coming 12 months - media center, phone, and maybe even a UPMC) that just make life easier is just a plus that will help to sustain the brand.

    Sharp. LOL.

Seriously, does anyone here even hear about tablet PCs anymore? Nope.
What happened with Microsoft Origami? Nothing.

This is an iSight shot from the front page of today's CompUSA flyer. The Sony VAIO UX Micro PC with Windows XP Professional is brand new, and an "origami" device.
