So is this a stevenote or not? i think that might hint at what caliber of goodies are coming

curious about that myself. historically, have there been "special events" like this without a stevenote? (or a philnote, for that matter)

i think that just aperture would not justify a stevenote, but more than just aperture might (tho aperture would be the primary subject)

Drunk driver checkpoints are the biggest law enforcement scam being perpetrated on the public at large. These checkpoints do no better than roving patrols but cops do them because they can hassle the public without probable cause and bust them for other minor infractions. They also more likely to have them in poor neighborhoods where people may be late paying their insurance or vehicle fees. They make big money from impounding poor people's cars.

They pad the bottom line of the Law Enforcement Industrial Complex and so that's why they have them. It has NOTHING to do with justice.

These stops are a nuisance. I don't drink and drive. I just don't like being stopped and hassled at night for up to an hour when I just want to go home. That's what this app is good for, end of story.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Applestores must be filled with cash. I would think one would be a bit easier to rob than a bank.

I doubt they leave large amounts of cash in the stores over night.

Uh no I didn't. I just interpreted the law. As someone implied earlier, this could all be a ruse. I might not have done anything I said in this thread. No one here can know 100% for sure, because you did not witness the event I claim occurred. That simple fact, in addition to any record searching anyone did without a warrant would be an invasion of privacy would get anything I say in this thread thrown out of court faster than you could blink.

    -Don

OP, I do find it amusing you think you know the intricacies of the law just because your uncle is a judge

Until you have the education/training yourself, I would not be so confident in your opinions...especially as one who has not even finished hs

I also advise you to stop digging yourself in a hole. I feel you are rapidly losing any credibility/respect that many long time posters previously had of you due to this very, and I mean very childish and selfish mindset you are exhibiting in this thread

I think its very telling that Jobs closed the Showtime event by saying:

"Apple is in your den, living room, car, pocket. I think you see where we are going with this."

Is he saying that Apple's plan is to be everywhere?
Probably, and a cell phone certainly completes that plan.

Ok so in other words you DON'T need a Core 2 Duo to run Leopard, right?
    Right.

Leopard will at the very least run on 2004 era macs and most likely all the way back to 2001.

If, for example, someone is using Verizon Wireless, would the Apple Phone work for them? In other words, how "universal" would this phone truly be? Would it be able to compete in international markets?

    (edited: clarification)

As RIM announced that the PlayBook will be able to run Android Apps, the competition will be very interesting.
Additional factors need to be considered.
Things like malware, adware, and so on for all these OS. As more and more people get mobile devices with these OS, depending on how all these players in the market protect their OS and devices against this type of security issues, the consumer will go for what works and do not need all the anti-virus *************.
Other rumors like carrier independence, if it flies, and Apple successfully bat a hit with this, the consumers will go where their money is worth every penny.
Making your own hardware has been a key for Apple success. Maybe RIm enjoyed some of it, but most of all the other OS are so fragmented in terms of hardware, that for them it is not easy to maintain, release, as it is difficult for any IT department to support them.
So the distinction between enterprise/business and regular customers will also show a different distribution of the market share.

Apple does not care about us, they just enjoy us lining their pockets full of cash. They get us hooked on using their products and we go and buy more and more of them. They just enjoy getting our money, like any business.

Alright. Let's go about it this way, using your own terminology.

How has Apple had success "lining their pockets full of cash."

How has Apple gotten us "hooked on using their products."

Are you suggesting they borrowed Harry Potter's wand and tranced us into purchases, held guns to our heads, or imposed government regulations requiring the purchase of iPod Nanos?

Or - what I believe to be more likely - are you just blathering, "I don't like corporations, and I happen to be on an Apple message board"?

Rodimus I think you misunderstand. When I flew up on her I slowed down. I signaled for her to move over to the "slow lane," she did not. After I signaled her again, she brakechecked me. When she did that, I passed her, waited till there was a car on her side and then slammed on my brakes, forcing her into the service lane, in order to avoid hitting me.

    -Don

And the stupidity of this story increases.

You have now just introduced road rage into what you did.
Btw if she hit you on that legally speaking YOU would be responsible for the wreck since you did that on purpose to case a wreck.

Remember you are a bad driver and will be for at least the next 5 years. You lack the experience to judge road conditions and learn what is important and not important to track. Your brain while you are driving is having to do a lot more work than lets say my brain at processing all the information it is bring in while you are driving. It does not have a data base built up yet to learn what can be tossed out and what is important. You are actively have to do it. Compared to someone who has 5+ years under their belt who's brain can filter threw and only deal with the important stuff. This leave much more processing power to deal with said important stuff.

Sometimes it helps to do a quick search. ;)

They do have surround sound support. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304277#faq26)

It clearly states Dolby Surround and Dolby Pro Logic Systems. This is from the VHS days. DVDs support Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. This is plain nuts. Not only are you getting slightly inferior picture, the sound is ancient. Dolby Surround is nowhere as good as Dolby Digital. Here is a simple explanation.

Dolby Surround uses two tracks of audio to encode 4 tracks. The two additional tracks are for the center channel and a single rear channel. The single rear channel is not full spectrum (20Hz - 20kHz), but rather something very narrow.

For comparison, if you have a good surround sound system (I am not talking about the $200 Home Theatre in a box system, but a system that cost at least $1000), play a DVD that has both Dolby Surround and Dolby Digital. Play with the Dolby Surround track first and then play with the Dolby Digital track next. Huge difference. I am disappointed. Surely, there is a way they could embed discrete surround with AAC.

The specs for Dolby Digital is as follows: 5 tracks of discrete digital sound full spectrum 20Hz-20kHz. One channel for LFE (low frequency extension) - topping out at about 120Hz. That is why you have 5.1.

Dolby Digital is lossy compression though but still you have 5.1 channels. DTS is another lossy compression format but has a higher bit rate and sounds better than Dolby Digital. DTS typically have about 760kbps while Dolby Digital is about 448kbps.

HD-DVD and Bluray Disk support Dolby TrueHD that supports 8 channels of lossless sound upto 18Mbps. Cool. Well, we are way off from there.

    Lets sue the name "apple"

"the compound noun 'apple' means simply ' a healthy object created by nature wich will give you pleasure and a longer life,' which is merely a definition of the thing itself--a generic characterization."

Yep i have few of those...One is 24"

Any word on the difference between the C2D 2.16 and the 2.33? Is it worth the upgrade price?

The benefit should be nearly linear, so not much. I suggest putting the price difference in a fund toward your next computer in 2 years, when something even more cool and hard top pass up will be available.

I was asking you what I thought would be an easy question for you to answer. I'll ask again, it will work with any USB device, do you think that is an incentive for drive vendors to invest in it? I'll wait.
Yeah, it is. USB 3.0 is not that big of a step up from USB 2.0 so those that really need the extra bandwidth will not bother with it and go straight to Thunderbolt. Simple as that. Leave your rinky dink Toys R Us low bandwidth peripherals to USB and leave the big boy peripherals to Thunderbolt.

And I've posted no strawman arguments. I didn't insult you either. It was an observation. Reading difficulty is a problem, sure, but it is a a challenge that many people face. I am hopeful that those with this limitation can better themselves perhaps by taking some courses. Dialog is always better with someone that understands and can follow the discussion.Sure you have, you've completely ignored my other post then changed the subject to reading comprehension to smokescreen the topic at hand. Oh and give me a break with your non-insult ********. You have been making jabs about short buses and taking comprehension classes over a Thunderbolt and USB discussion. If anything you are the one that needs to take some classes, maybe not on comprehension but I'm sure you get the idea.

To properly recap, I believe it could be a repeat of FW and it could end up being considered 'Mac only'. I know it is subtle that a claim it will be DOA (well, subtle like a baseball bat, I guess), but it shouldn't be this difficult for you to understand. You are really, truly, picking the wrong fight. I think we actually agree on a lot of points. I'd like it to succeed, but can see things that might be obstacles. You don't see those as obstacles or perhaps don't see them at all. But, really, stop arguing against things I never said.Actually let's do a real recap:
You agree with a claim that Thunderbolt will be Mac only
I respond with an article that simply states it won't be
You respond with the reason it won't take off as manufacturers will have to add it separately
Econgeek tells you it's a completely different scenario because they don't need a license through Apple
I tell you Intel will be supporting both
You then start with your strawman argument and ignore a portion of what I stated
You also follow that up with some insults
I respond with video proof of why Thunderbolt will be popular with many devices
You ignore then respond with more insults

I hate to say this folks, but even an iPhone wouldn't be worth having to deal with Cingular's godawful service. Reception is poor in areas where it's supposed to be good and even when you have good reception, you get dropped calls due to network error/rejected/dropped. I've had Cingular for a while now, and I am preparing to drop it with eagerness, even if that means a $200 contract termination fee. I want to slug that twat who says Cingular has the least dropped calls, because it's a ********* LIE.

Verizon isn't much better. I'm wanting to switch to Sprint; their plans make the most sense. Unfortunately, their coverage areas are small.
