Is all relative. If you take my home country, it'll be around $1.32/hour pay for minimum wage. You get 2 weeks vacation and equivalent pay. Oh and down there they treat you like crap because of the infuriating high 35% unemployment rate. So everyone looks out for their job even if it means sucking up.
Here in the US you can fight it. So yeah. Also Europe has more taxes than the US. Consecuently we get taxed even lower than the US. But still $315.50 a month is barely covering cost of living even for my country.

That said, I don't think this is a 'right' or 'left' issue per se, but rather a gleeful removal of worker's rights to garner jobs�regardless of the health of a community funded by low-wage, short-term positions.

A privilege checking issue existed in the i386_set_ldt system call's handling of call gates. A local user may be able to execute arbitrary code with system privileges. This issue is addressed by disallowing creation of call gate entries via i386_set_ldt().
Generating a successful malware from that list of vulnerabilities has two requirements:
1) A remote arbitrary code execution vulnerability has to be linked to a local privilege escalation vulnerability.
2) Those vulnerabilities that can be linked together must both be exploitable. Not all vulnerabilities are exploitable.
The only local privilege escalation vulnerability in that update is shown above. To be linked to a remote vulnerability to create a successful malware requires the following:
1) The call function must be used by a process that also has an remote vulnerability so that the vulns can be linked together to install a payload, such as rootkit. It is likely that not all processes will use that call function. Also, that call function is for 32-bit processes and most client side software in Mac OS X that may contain a remote exploit are 64-bit processes.
2) The two vulnerabilities have to be reliably exploitable once linked together as well as being reliably exploitable independently so that they can actually be linked together. Again, not all vulnerabilities are exploitable.

MS is unprepared for the current competitive situation. Google has shown just how flat-footed and out of touch MS really is. We have a mass-market commodity-ware vendor that apparently has the power to give things away for free that are "good enough." Before, MS used to be the "just good enough" vendor. Then you've got Apple on the Premium end showing the way forward.
This "You just watch, MS will catch up eventually" tactic is currently and will in the future continue to produce diminishing returns.

Bad management, false starts, a string of failures, continual embarrassment . . . all of this would be no problem at all, if only investors, shareholders, directors - whoever has the power - would call for the entire top-level management at MS to be terminated. THAT is positive change. But same old same old . . .

Google Reader is a cool product that has been forgotten. now Pulse and Zite are making much better RSS readers and i'll probably switch. little things like this will make people leave google services. i've read that a lot of talented people like google has are ADHD or only care about making something cool and not building up on it. it took microsoft years to make windows usable and then they took market share from the competition just like it took years for apple to make iOS usable and take the mobile market

Which law firm please. We'd all like to know for future reference, who to not trust our cases with. While most law has to do with the letter of the law, jury trials often are won or lost based on what the jury believes to be the intent or spirit of the law.
The british common law legal system was never intended to be like this. The lawyers have destroyed and twisted it beyond all recognition. It was originally supposed to be based on judeo-christian morals and ethics. There is not supposed to be a grey area. You are either deliberately infringing on the rights of others or you are not. The original intent was to have a court case as the last resort where parties would first try to solve the problem by talking to each other, then go to arbitration and then court as a last resort.
Come off it, cmaier has a darn good point. Apple is being utterly ridiculous in this debacle between themselves and Rogue Amoeba. There was no reason at all that such a debate should have evolved into a 3 month conflict, nor was it necessary that it should have ended with Rogue Amoeba having to indulge their customers in a battle with Apple over icons. Having user interface unity is something Apple strives for in all of their products. By giving 3rd party developers the ninth degree over something so ingrained in this product is simply stupid. It does nothing to help the end user, ingrain the confidence of developers, or aid Apple. It just brings out end users and developers with grievances and sharpened pitchforks.

Here in Sweden, the Police says that their goal is to increase safety, not catch people. I'd rather have a drunk driver stay at home because of an app warning of a checkpoint than get in the car and get caught.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a phone that was able to switch to VOIP in areas with free 802.11 service if you choose to? It could be a part of .Mac Moblie that was discussed earlier. At home it would be on your existing wireless network and could sync with iTunes and all the other Apple Apps and serve as a remote. Away from a 802.11 network it could pick up the cell carrier towers. Would something like this be worth developing?

There are a few nice features you get with a separate tablet. First, your hand doesn't interfere with your view of the screen. Second (and kind of related), you don't get fingerprints all over your screen. Third, there is no need to calibrate the pointer with the display (it's maddening when the cursor is a few pixels away from a stylus).

seems to me that lots of people complaining about the data on mobile phone issue are overlooking something. When network capacity allowed them to, networks gave unlimited data - then we all got data hungry, killing capacity and forcing limits. At some point soon (probably with 4G) the networks won't have a capacity issue with increased levels. They probably won't go back to true unlimited - they are businesses after all - but we could be looking at broadband rates similar to landline, maybe �15/month for 100GB or so. As and when that kicks in, having a media cloud will be a huge blessing. Until then, wifi users and home users will still benefit.
3G just doesn't have anywhere near the massive capacity 4G can be optimised to give.

Whether you are accused of a crime or just being surveilled and whether you are guilty or innocent is irrelevant. The point is, the information is available for anyone to obtain.

Keep listening to corporate run media which lies and doesn't tell the whole story.. my friend, unemployment and the economy aren't getting any better.. in fact, very soon it will collapse.. as inflation starts to settle in.. and if you wanna know the truth, look at BBC and other non-corporate run media for the truth. I know in my home state its like 7.9 percent and most of the jobs are health care and IT - no industrial, no customer service, nothing else.
