I could believe this is you think back to the story last month about Apple being in the process of acquiring a company to revamp the notification system.

4 months would be too steep to create/test a major change like that from scratch, so if the notification story is true (and the "no comment" from Boxcar in the original source makes me believe it is) it would strengthen the case for a Fall release.

What crack-addled mind seriously thinks it'd be sensible or probable that Apple would come out with a new iPad 5 months after... coming out with a new iPad?
I mean, I suppose, if they just wanted to take the biggest splashiest attention grabber product they have and not bother capitalizing on all the time & money they spent on iPad2, and just completely hamfist the frickin thing up it's own arse for the sheer bloody hell of it, then yea, sure it makes total sense.
Also, the cloud is only as good as your connection, which is usually less than wonderful, especially with every frickin app in the appstore trying to stream everything it does over wifi, not to mention, god forbid, you actually have other computers in the house trying to send data over your network too. Open that physical USB bus up already! ...or better yet light peak connectivity...

Apple could do themselves a lot of favours if they came out with an offical statement, explaining what iOS does in regards of user tracking ( i.e, location database ). Some 1 line email response fired off by SJ doesn't do much good.
Once again, Apple fall down in terms of customer relations / communications. If Apple handled this correctly then all the fuss could go away in a couple days.

Free MobileMe as an iAd platform? That sounds about right. Paid MobileMe without the iAds? I think we're getting somewhere now...
The problem with this idea is that it's based on the assumption that Apple wants to be like Google and suddenly become an advertiser.
They purchased Quattro and developed iAds because it represents a mutually beneficial deal for developers on the app store and Apple. Apple designs the ads and runs them on their servers and developers get to deliver free or .$99 apps that can actually be profitable. Quid pro quo...Apple gets more apps hopefully that don't suck and the developer gets to reap the rewards of the success of the app store.
That same play doesn't come into effect with Mobileme. It's not dependent on 3rd party developers delivering content so thusly you will not see iAds in Mobileme.

I think a Fall release of iOS5 has the ring of truth.
The iPod music event is becoming a bit of a non event as traditional iPod's become less relevant. So instead Apple will introduce iOS5 which will include one big music feature: cloud streaming and storage of your music!
But if you're going to introduce cloud streaming and sync, then the current iPod touch is not a great device because it has no persistent internet connection, so they're going to introduce an iPod Touch with 3G, which (obviously) won't be called the iPod Touch, but will instead be a cheaper, thinner, lighter iPhone! It might even only have 4GB of storage (probably 8GB) as standard, but the cloud services will make that less of an issue.
The iPhone 5 will still be introduced in the summer with iOS4x and will remain the high end iPhone with NFC, 1080p video recording, 4inch Screen, 8mp still camera, A5 chip, 64GB storage option, maybe they'll introduce Facetime over 3G too at that time too... Same basic physical package as the iPhone 4.

For too many people now trading up from feature phones to their first smartphone (at least in the UK) the leap from what they're paying now up to an iPhone is too big. Instead they're getting a low end Android device (e.g. HTC wildfire etc). Apple are not stupid, they know they need to get into that part of the market and soon. It seems like the right time frame. And they need a big event (like their traditional fall music event) to do it.

The lack of color in the system icons is god awful. Color graphics are much more easily identified than a scaled down grey icon.Grey is the new grey at Apple it seems. The stark minimalism is starting to become an issue.

As many observers have noted, the iOS location database does not record exact GPS data, instead seeking to pinpoint the locations of Wi-Fi access points and cell towers that the device comes within range of, although the database does offer a clear general track of a user's movements.

It's like your Mac keeps a list of WiFi networks it has been connected to, so it doesn't have to ask you again the next time it sees them. Yes, that data can be used to point to roughly where you are, but it's not pinpoint accuracy like with GPS.
I think the easy solution to all this is simply to have this consolidated.db file roll off the old data after a couple of weeks or so, rather than keep it around for months or years at a stretch.

NO It's not, are you crazy. That looks horrid. iOS icons have unique look to them, placement is not patented. The look is.

I said *conceptually* they are the same, they both share the same common properties and looks - i.e., grid, shortcuts, status bar etc ( as I pointed out ), yes, the placement it different - but that is irrelevent?
It doesn't matter if it looks 'horrid', thats an opinion - by today's standards OS9 looks 'horrid' - IMO.

Why is everyone so convinced that there will be significant updates to the Cinema Displays? Remember how long the non-Alu plastic displays were out? It must have been five years, while the Alu displays have been out for less then two years.
I can't see Apple making a bigger screen then 30" for desktop use. And if they were to, it would be for a multimedia center type thing, which not only is unlikely, but would never be released at WWDC. As a 30" display owner, theres no way a screen larger then 30" would be a feasible desktop display. Besides, anything larger then 30" is just too niche of a market.
Regarding a built-in iSight, I think the Pro market is just the wrong market for that. Apple has to be aware of its market, and b/c of security reasons, cameras just aren't feasible at this point.
Hell, who knows, I'm probably 100% wrong :p.
Edit: Perhaps Apple will just bump the display to be HDCP compliant. HDMI is pretty much the same as DVI, for everyone who doesn't know ;).

I think the reason why there is no new iphone this year is because maybe apple wants to come out with both at&t and verizone iphone at the same time next year. which would be less of a headache for both carrier and fans.

No, it is not. Why do you think, MS is making an ARM version of Windows 8? Because ARM is gona be the actual feature x68 enemy. Time will tell.
Or maybe its because they want to take another stab at a market that never full caught on with windows 8. Remember MS was using ARM based cpu in theri Windows CE and Windows Mobile devices for years, and Win8 will just be a newer, and more finger friendly version of Windows CE, but in tablet form instead of 5in screen mini pc form.
