There's no question that apple will not *ship* merom machines tomorrow. But there's nothing stopping them from making the announcement and taking preorders.

ah yes. just like they did with the eMac back in the day. that was popular... you know, not having a product to ship for weeks.

...and we like to hook up our consoles to our monitors... I really hope this deal about the failed Target Mode is some kind of misunderstanding.

Yeah... All 13 of you  JK.

Don't get me wrong, I'd probably be a little upset if I were you, but this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise; you are a VERY small percentage of the market.

Hilarious to all those people who jumped on the THUNDERBOLT bandwagon. No thunderbolt devices yet and they have the hideous old case design.

No offense, but does no one but me realize that he was being sarcastic?

    The above text contains:
Strawman argument/claiming what I said wasn't true without providing any proof/Insults

    Here's another recap for you:
Person 1: Thunderbolt = Mac Only
    You: Bingo
Me: Post to an article showing that it won't be Mac only
You: Claim you were talking metaphorically to save your ass
Myself and Econgeek: Explain to you why what you saved your ass with won't be true
You: Go on a rampage of insults

    Pot, meet kettle.
I'll respond to you one last time, to try to clarify your confusion.

Strawman argument/claiming what I said wasn't true without providing any proof/Insults No. You are confusing these with facts. I've pointed out to you each time you have made something up in my reply.

Person 1: Thunderbolt = Mac Only True. In the same way FW is 'Mac only'. You perhaps don't understand the difference between speaking literally and effectively. Effectively, FW is considered 'Mac only' yet is available to any vendor that wants to implement it. But the lack of interest has resulted in it being considered 'Mac only'. Not literally, but effectively. See the difference?
    You: Bingo True.
Me: Post to an article showing that it won't be Mac only False. You posted an article that said others could use it. Nowhere in your article did it say others would use it. I explained this to you, but again, you missed the point. Firewire isn't literally Mac only either.
You: Claim you were talking metaphorically to save your ass False. I don't think you understand what a metaphor is, because you aren't using it right. I claimed, and the OP later explained, it was meant, in context, effectively Mac only. Seriously, this is highschool english.
Myself and Econgeek: Explain to you why what you saved your ass with won't be trueFalse. Econogeek did well in explaining how the situations differ. You explained nothing.
You: Go on a rampage of insults False. No insults. Just observations. If you made a lot of spelling errors and I pointed them out, that would be an observation, not an insult. You both misunderstood posts and made up claims of statements that did not exist. I pointed that out. If you felt insulted, you are being overly sensitive.

Next thing the IDC will say is that if GM and Chrysler went into partnership, they might produce one good car. The only problem is that even if they do make a good phone or even great one, who the hell is going to buy it? After countless years of a terrible OS called Windows, who really wants to carry around a phone the same name on it? Not me ever, I dont care how good the phone is I would get an Android phone first, and then go with out a cell phone or resort to sign language to avoid needing a windows phone.

Well here at work I could replace 4 PC draughting workstations with a Conroe based system. We already have 23" monitors so we are not going to purchase iMacs, and while Mac Pro's are nice they are too expensive for us... A $1500 headless system would do wonders! (and yes the mini is too little).

If Apple cannot release such a system we will have to continue purchasing PCs... :(
Depending on the applications you are going to use, you could cluster some minis.

Google is buying up Dark Fiber. That means no end points into homes like Verizons FIOS has. The bottleneck for full length high resolution movies will be from decentralized distribution centers to the homes. Dark Fiber is helping, but not by much.

Apple bought Worldcom's new telecom switch center.

Google is buying Nortel's dark fiber.

Google's CEO is on Apple's board.

Nobody is going to run fiber to the last mile.

The solution is Intel wimax and Samsung 4G.

    I told you so.

EDIT: @ EricNau - what do you guys not understand about "she was doing 65mph is a 70mph zone" which she then lowered to 55mph after brakechecking me????????

    -Don

Assuming the weather was good, she probably shouldn't have been in the fast lane going below the speed limit, but that doesn't give you any right to be driving 20 mph above the speed limit, and then intentionally trying to cause an accident.

Someday you will cause an accident, and hopefully you don't get killed or kill anyone. Maybe you will be lucky and get your license taken away first though.

Hey, they could build a little hub with a cord that plugs into the TB port and provide a few USB 1,2,3 ports, maybe a firewire port, plus a glowing Apple logo on top and call it an iHub.

Apple drives me crazy with their practice of naming everything with a "i" in front of it. I wonder if when Steve Jobs goes to the bathroom if he has an iBM :D

so the program can not find the file. Does that mean my iPhone isnt tracking me?

I was just about to post the same thing; the application says that it couldn't find the consolidated.db file. I even tried syncing my iPhone once more and it still didn't help. An interesting note though - I own a Verizon iPhone. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

They do build in obsolescence into the ipod as you can't replace the battery (easily). It does become a disposable item, although a pricey one at that. I do love the ipod (even though I don't own one) but this puts me off to the point where I just can't go through with actually buying one. My experience with rechargeable batteries in mobile phones and lap top isn't good.
Meh, don't worry about the batteries. Sure, some people have problems, but my 3G ipod is still doing surprisingly well! It may have lost a little bit of charge since I bought it but it still lasts at least 7 hours. Maybe I'm just lucky. Or maybe it knows it needs to behave before the sweet widescreen video ipod comes out. Or else. :D

Apple, Google, or my phone provider storing this information in their servers is a different issue than it being stored on the phone.

Yes, because it's out of your possession and likely easily accessible by those who want it. The data on your phone, however, is in your possession.

So all Greenpeace did was hand out leaflets in areas other than their stand? So they didn't smash up the Apple stand or invade Adobe chanting and shouting.

They handed out leaflets and were ejected because no one's ever allowed to talk about the downsides of our throwaway consumer-trinket technojunk culture without being told to shut up.

Heck, every trade show I ever go to has girls with their tits half hanging out wondering the halls handing out leaflets nowhere near their particular stand.

Sad to see so many people now happy to have people's free speech stamped all over. No wonder Bush can dismantle the Bill of Rights and his lapdog Blair can swiftly remove centruries-old liberties with barely a whisper. I agree with Greenpeace's concerns. Vast toxic waste dumps with no proper processing are springing up across China.

If some fat overfed Westerner's kids had to live and play near a site like that they'd be up in arms! But, no, let's pretend the problems are somehow 'made up' by 'subversives' and need stamping out with the jackboots.

    This way, please. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole)

As previously confirmed, the iMac is the most powerful AIO desktop...the title you just mentioned belongs to the MacPro...sorry for the misunderstanding...

You again with your ludicrous claims? What makes you think that Mac Pro is the fastest desktop there is? What is the secret ingredient that makes it faster than other machines, considering that it uses same components than others do? And since Mac Pro supports less RAM (16GB vs. 64GB) than Dell does (for example), how could you say that it's "the most powerful"? Compared to Dell, it will be dog-slow for tasks that require a lot of RAM.

How is Winblows going on your side, Aiden? Many BSODs today?

Now, I hate Windows and I use it at work because I have no choice. An there are plenty of bad things in it. But I don't get any BSODs. I really don't. Back when I used a desktop, I sometimes left the machine running for weeks and I had no problems.

When was the last time you used Windows? Back in Windows ME-days?

Seriously: I think you should take a chill-pill an dial-back that fanboyishness of yours.

And this idea that nothing can be done on the Mac until a virus or other malware exploit shows up on a news site is absurd.
    Prove otherwise.
There are plenty of tools out there, for instance, to point out dangerous web sites that could be a threat to a computer.
Name one tool that can detect a Mac OS X virus. Just one.

Cram 1GB? Have you seen the 8GB iPod Nano? What are you talking about? Isn't flash memory capable of being used for running processes, or is it too slow?

It may raise the price of the phone, but putting 8GB flash memory into an iPhone would be awesome. I just held one of the new nano's at my local Apple Store today and it's size is perfect as is the weight. The storage portion of the phone is not going to be a problem from that perspective.

    Awesome!

Why 2 negatives over 1 positive? Wow.

Is there a way you can upgrade this new chip on previous intel mac? Just wondering. This is new to me.
    iMac = Socket 479 (Yonah)
    Conroe = Socket 775

    So, no.
