Obviously the images are copyrighted by Apple, and those images they don't want people using. Ok, well, that is their rights, they designed them and copyrighted them. Either they have to license those images from Apple (which I doubt Apple would do) or make their own. Just like every other copyright, you don't have the right to breech. If Apple doesn't defend their copyright, then they can lose it, so they HAVE to fight for it.

If anyone at Apple HQs is listening, please give us a revved up/priced down MBP. Merom + 160 GB/7200 rpm hdd at $1999 would be sweet. I don't care to watch movies on anything less than a 50" screen, and I sure as hell am not moved to tears by an 8GB nano that is priced at 75% of a regular iPod. C'mon Apple, it's not too late!

If they release MacBook Pros, I wonder if the top end models will come with a Blu-ray option. I know people have dismissed this before but I just noticed that Sony has released "The world's first Blu-Ray disc enabled notebook." Will the 17" MBP be next?

This may have been asked and answered before, but is the common belief that USB and Firewire will be completely gone soon? For example, my Macbook Air has room for only two ports - a mini-display drive, and a USB drive. Is the idea that the Thunderbolt drive will replace the USB, and that purchasers of the new Air will use an adapter of some sort for "old" USB peripherals moving forward?

If Apple has this expectation, they had better at least sell an appropriate adapter/hub. I've long thought a thin, form-matching hub that connects to all of the ports on one side of an Apple portable would be a great idea. If Apple can make a 2- or even 3-port USB hub off of the Thunderbolt port (especially if a Mini Display-Port is also available) for ~$50, that would be golden for this type of MBA plan.

I really hope Apple doesn't jump on the camera-phone bandwagon. Seems to go against their philosophy of having devices that do few things but to them far better. And it would make the phone useless to me. But that's just because my employers are sensitive about such devices, with the nuclear reactors and all.

And signing on with Cingular or any other major carrier seems like an even bigger mistake. The only way to truly improve the cell phone user experience is to take them out of the picture and introduce a fair and simple billing system (i.e. MVNO w/ daily flat rate, iTunes-style micropayments).

Umm...apple makes computers, remember? I agree that the success of the iPod is largely due to its elegant and simple design, but Apple also makes MacBooks, iMacs, etc. that are consumer-focused, elegant, and easy to use, yet provide rich functionality.

The thing is, the mobile phone is moving inexorably to essentially be a universal handheld communicator/computer that used to be the stuff of sci-fi films. Acually, if you ask me, the primary "must-have" on the phone of the near-future is high-speed internet access (3G+), not music or camera features. That being said, i think the music and camera features go hand-in-hand with high-speed internet. I think in addition to being able to download songs, you'll be able to listen to iTunes radio stations through the iPhone (if not at launch, then eventually). And having mobile phones acting as video phones will become common, too. Can you say iChat on your mobile phone?

So there you have the long term vision of the iPhone: a phone enabled with iTunes mobile, iChat mobile, PhotoBooth mobile. Not to mention QuickTime mobile, Safari mobile (ok, no need here really - I'm happy with Opera mini), Mail Mobile, iCal Mobile, Address Book mobile, etc. Not to mention the ability to play both the new iPod games and the huge amount of Java Mobile games already available.

I have to say, I already own a Sony Ericsson phone that already has most of the above features. What I am looking for from the iPhone is
    1) all the same features as my SE phone, except done a little bit better
    2) more seamless integration with my MacBook (though I have 3rd party software do do everything now)
    3) a true 3G multimedia phone experience (my T-Mobile contract was up just this month, and the only reason I haven't immediately switched to Cingular and gotten the 3.5G LG CU500 phone is because I'm willing to hold out a few months to see what the iPhone has to offer)

So, Leopard has some features that haven't been revealed yet.

Could one of them possibly be the rumor of having a Bit Torrent client built into the OS.....

    http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/software/rumor-os-x-leopard-to-have-bittorrent-client-for-itunes-store-170791.php

Which would make the possibility of downloading higher quality videos plausible....

    http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/03/22/140815-imacs_2010.jpg

As tracked in our Buyer's Guide (http://www.macrumors.com/buyersguide/#iMac), the iMac has reached its average update interval, suggesting that we might be able to expect refreshed models to appear some time in the relatively near future. Expectations for revamped iMacs include a move to Sandy Bridge processors and implementation of the new Thunderbolt connectivity standard that debuted in the MacBook Pro last month.

In a series of Tweets (via MacNews.de (http://www.macnews.de/mac/imac-update-teil-2-mai-thunderbolt-sandy-bridge-160029)), CNET's Brian Tong claims (http://twitter.com/brian_tong/status/50234343263707136) to have received word from a reliable source (http://twitter.com/brian_tong/status/50234696809984000) that new iMacs should debut in late April or early May. The updated iMacs are said (http://twitter.com/brian_tong/status/50234522251444224) to feature Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt as expected, but no major cosmetic changes are reported to be included.iMac rumors have been relatively sparse in recent months, although DigiTimes indicated (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/12/15/imac-and-macbook-pro-upgrades-in-first-half-of-2011/) in mid-December that Apple was expected to update both the MacBook Pro and iMac in the first half of 2011 with the iMac featuring a new panel size and price points. Just days before the MacBook Pro update in late February, DigiTimes reiterated its claim (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/22/apple-to-update-imac-alongside-or-soon-after-macbook-pro/) that may change the screen size on new iMacs, claiming that the new models could debut alongside or soon after the MacBook Pros.

Article Link: Potential iMac Update to Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt in 4-6 Weeks? (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/22/potential-imac-update-to-sandy-bridge-and-thunderbolt-in-4-6-weeks/)

More surprising than this rumor is the fact that it's the first actual MAC rumor (beyond "we've found that the Early 2011 MacBook Pros have quirks" posts) in weeks. None of that is surprising though. I wonder if there will be any surprises with this refresh? I'm guessing no Blu-Ray, which means I'm not buying one. Though I'm still curious as to what'll be under the hood.

Tell ya what..If I want to watch a full length movie I'm gonna do it in my living room in front of my TV NOT wherever the computer is.

Wow, you really don't get it.

Watching on the tv is exactly what this is about. The whole point is that you don't need to have a *computer* or even a *hard drive* next to the TV since you can just stream the video from a computer ANYWHERE in your house.

Seriously, did you even look at the picture you responded to?

A number one customer in their electronics division that accounts to a whopping 4 % of Samsungs sales

The reliance Apple has on Samsung is much more than that Samsung has on Apple...

maybe maybe not. My guess is Apple would be hurt more since Samsung would have a fairly easy time filling up most of those lost orders. Reason why is because shortage of those type of parts. Everyone is fighting over them.

Samsung is one of Apple largest suppliers.

I think my next computer will be an Ivy Bridge MBA with Thunderbolt. My 2007 Macbook is getting a bit long in tooth.

I have a Rev D MacBook Air (11") and also think the Ivy Bridge will be a worthwhile upgrade. There is now no reason why that one shouldn't have USB 3.0, or Thunderbolt, plus Ivy Bridge, unlike Sandy Bridge, will have a GPU as fast as the NVIDIA 320m.

I swear, this guy never seems happy about anything. I seem to recall him saying this for other product releases... $10 says he'll say it again once the MBA is released.

I have a friend who swears Apple is gonna turn the MBP into a big MBA. He's pissed and moaned about the 15" loosing the express slot and "forced" him to get the new Sandy Bridge 17" MBP... He doesn't use the slot. He says he simply wants the comfort of knowing he has it if he ever wanted to use it.

His latest rage is that the next MBP won't have a DVD slot. I forgot my Macs even had a DVD slot but I guess that's the difference between us.

USB3 is dead tech. You'll never see it on a Mac. Would be VERY surprised to see eSATA, as well.

Huh? Where are you getting the idea it's "dead tech"? We just started to see USB 3 thumb drives and HDDs.

I obviously see Thunderbolt's (I hate that new name) superiority. But that doesn't mean consumers do. They eat what they are fed. That's why I said Apple and Intel have to force Thunderbolt into the light and into their computers. If Apple does it first and is noted for having the fastest stuff because they went the extra step people/companies will follow.

    Sadly,
Wal-Mart is God in the retail sector. They have far more power over the success of CDs and DVDs than Apple could dream of. I doubt that is going to change anytime soon, especially not as a result of Apple movie sales.

I think the basic three limiting factors for that are the following:

    - no device to connect to the TV to easily reproduce those movies
    - not enough standard storage space for HD resolution
    - not high enough standard bandwidth for HD resolution

Well at least the first Apple has in it's own hands in January. The other two will take at least 2-3 years more at which time Apple will have missed the head start over physical HD mediums.

They should respond with an original product line.

And yes there will be people who say "apple isn't the first to come up with idea X". Nonsense. Apple takes several new ideas (some their own making, others not) and brings them together to make a new product. Apple takes a risk that their large investment will pay off and that a new product line will emerge. They do not do small production runs with these new products.

No one else made a tablet with the bells and whistles of the ipad that came together with the user experience one expects now on a tablet and produced it in such large quantities hoping a new market would emerge with great demand.

Apple could have simply said netbooks are the safe bet, lets do that. But they didn't.

Going forward, every tablet is going to be similar. That is fair enough. But when I look at the samsung devices, I feel like there is nothing really new about the user experience. It looks very similar to the ipad; more than one would expect. Creative companies would at least try to do something original.

Anybody responsible for guarding should have a gun. If the person isn't qualified to carry a gun, they he/she isn't qualified to guard anything and shouldn't be a guard.

When you're exchanging gunfire with a criminal, the main goal is not to wound; it is to remove the threat to your life completely. Let's say the guard shoots the guy in the arm, the guy's going to be so pumped up on adrenaline that he's not going to even know he's shot, giving him plenty of opportunity to take another shot.

Ask yourself this: If it were your life he was guarding, what would you want the guard to do?

    Well said.

I don't feel bad for criminals... I rather see him die than an innocent bystander that was just visiting the Apple store.

If any of you had ever lost someone or had someone that you loved seriously injured by a drunk driver - you'd want this app pulled.

0 good can come from drunk driving. I don't know anyone (intelligent person) who would say otherwise. Constitutional or not, who in the world would want to encourage a drunk person to get behind the wheel? ..which is exactly what these apps do. I'm sure that there's a percentage of drunk drivers who have ventured out on the roads only because they had the convenience of these apps - when otherwise, they would have gotten a ride or sobered up first.

I stop listening to anyone who ever utters the words "Constitutional or not..."

Our basic freedoms as Americans aren't worth conceding for any reason whatsoever, no matter how noble the goal may seem from a distance.

Looks like this has been widely known (http://www.forensicfocus.com/search-results?cx=partner-pub-1997641209324587%3Av26jsjw0irb&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=consolidated.db+&sa=Search) for a long time. There's an interesting ongoing discussion and analysis on the Forensic Focus website (http://www.forensicfocus.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&printertopic=1&t=6758&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20). For example, this:

As an example of the information recorded under controlled conditions, I joined a single access point on a freshly restored iPad. I had location services turned off and airplane mode switched on. I never moved from my office chair, the phone was also connected to a cell tower using 3G on O2. By just joining the wireless access point my ipad was populated with 379 access point locations and 122 cell tower locations.

From my office I can see at a push 4 wifi access points and some of the cell towers were 22KM away. There is no way I would connect to some of the cell towers or access points recorded from where I am located.
