Why so negative on this news?
As has been said, time and time again, the consumers Apple are tar targeting don't care what's in the box. If the on-screen "user experience" is great then it matters not one jot what brand of CPU or any other parts Apple decides to use.
It's like having a great car and getting upset about the manufacturer of the engine components. This type of consumer does not care.
It works, it looks great, I'm happy.

That would be a very solid step, especially if they ship soon.
I hope the iMac has its guts reconfigured to be more accesible like the early G5 was.
Also on the iMac. A wirelesskeyboard and mighty mouse option might be nice.
Also, a 500 HDD upgrade that didn't cost the earth.
A single Gig stick as standard would also be a nice step, even if only for the 20"

I would be immesly happy if its half as thick as the old one and has a verticle slot drive so I can lay it on its side and use it as a multimedia centre. I just wonder then where the ir reception will work(side of the slot like the mini?)

Just gave the problem to my 12 year old brother. Yup, its 288. To all you people who still believe it's 2, I hope you don't deal with math a lot in your careers. It might also be a good idea for you to hire somebody else to do your taxes ;)

Of course they will move to ARM, everyone will. Google is allready running their data centres on ARM based servers, Windows 8 will run on ARM as well, Apple is investing huge amount of money into their A4, A5 chips. The main problem of computers nowadays is power efficiency and not computing power, because most of the computers allready are overpowerd for what their users usually do with them.

East said that the current architecture, designed for client-side computing, can also be used in server applications.
"The architecture can support server application as it is," he said while discussing the company's first quarter financial results. "The implementations [of ARM] have traditionally been aimed at relatively low performance optimized for minimum power consumption. But we are seeing higher speed, multicore implementations now pushing up to 2 GHz. The main difference for a server processor is the addition of high-speed communications interfaces."
Can ARM stand up against rivals Intel and AMD in the server market? In regards to raw processing power, the current ARM processors can't compete with x86. But with a growing concern to reduce the amount of energy consumed by servers and server farms, ARM processors pose as a viable candidate, especially the multi-core options in the higher range.

the general availablity for the merom and woodcrest chips yet??
All of the benchmarks that people were drooling over the last couple of weeks were for the conroe, which is the desktop version.
So, it would not surprise me at all to see a delay in a merom based machine (or a woodcrest for that matter).

Whoaaaaaaa! Easy! This game has no time limits. I'm not in any hurry to expedite our exploration and prefer a slower, more systematic approach with the strength of the full group intact. Also, this game is a group game, not DP v. Villain. I think majority group input within reasonable timeframes ( everyone is able to play at different times of the day) and consensus is important. At least at this time.

Nothing to see here...just the unabashed evilness of Apple shining through. Released just in time for the holiday shopping season: An iPad that's cheaper than a regular iPad and can fit in a purse. A great present for the wife. It'll be THE stocking stuffer of the year. This iPad mini could be what the "new iPad in September" rumors are really about. Just don't call it an iPad 3 or Mr. jobs will get mad. It's the "Big Touch," yo.

So.. if the priorities are Parenthesis, then Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and lastly Substraction, using your rule:
48/2(9+3)

Then Multiplication: 2(12) = 24
Then Division: 48/24 = 2

And for those of you who get 2 by using calculators, any math teacher will tell you that calculators always get the rules of operations wrong. That's why we teach kids pemdas so they know what math to do first and they can use the calculators to help them do the parts of the equation they need help with.

At this point, pure rumor, not even vaporware, as vaporware implies the company has actually announced something.
ARM does have chips that can compete at the very lowest end of x86, such as with the chips presently running Netbooks. But it doesn't have anything even remotely competitive with the mainstream chips. (To use names: They compete with Atom, not with Core.)

I'm not missing anything. Developers care about three things:
1. Good tools
2. A device that can run their software well.
3. A market that lets them get paid
Devs do NOT care about specs unless it prevents them from writing good software. Apple will make sure specs keep up with developer needs. Beyond that, it simply does not matter except to geeks who obsess over specs. No one else cares.

haha you'll be FINE trust me. you bought a very high end laptop and it will happily run leopard. when apple introduces leopard it will want to get as many people as possible to use it, alienating owners of a macbook pro they bought a little over a year ago is not a path they will take.
You'll be able to run leopard just fine but you won't be able to take advantage of the 64 bit enhancements to leopard or use full 64 bit software.

Ok, that makes sense. I guess Conroe is the only Core 2 Duo chip that's available today. (And Woodcrest but it's marketed as Xeon 5100)
Merom is also availible today.

Democrats - "I am in favor of increasing government taxation, and I have the opportunity to put my money where my mouth is by voluntarily paying more taxes, but I am nonetheless not going to if other people don't."
So are you, on your own, going to voluntarily give money to the government? Or do we get to lump you in with your description of Democrats?

Can I just say I am amazed at some of the responses on this thread. Typical American and often I must admit British protectionism coming straight out like a bad smell. Without these so called "3rd world" workers Apple would be a lowly player. Firstly Japan is not "3rd world". It is one of the most developed countries in the world, and has some of the most adept and intelligent people on this planet. Secondly, the term "3rd world" and "1st world" is offensive. The proper term is developing and developed world. Thirdly, I am sure that we will all be fine if we dont get a few iPod batteries or glue. People have died over there and continue to die because of this tragedy. This is surely more important than a load of old microchips. Sorry. Rant over.

I agree that we will "all be fine" if the world faces iPod touch shortages. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't be upset about it - can I not care about the people who lost their lives or had their lives turned upside down AND a company that will face problems? The two are not mutually exclusive.
