Backlit keyboard on it and I am in. Perfect form factor and feature set for what I do all day every day. And less weight in my bag

Currently have the 13 mbp and would love to get a MBA to lighten my load.

I've heard this request from a lot of people on this forum. Is this really a deal breaker for you? the screen isn't bright enough at night to illuminate the keys that you need a separate source of light?

Pull these apps? That's a little drastic if you can use the app to avoid DUI checks you're quite good enough to drive I "think". Or they could give the developers the option to just take out that feature and leave the rest.

Wow. Good find. How is Apple even gonna dispute that.

Bottom Line, with this lawsuit, Apple has clearly declared they see Samsung as a very real threat. Samsung is MASSIVE. They are a true OEM. Look how they were able to pull off a revised Galaxy Tab 10.1 in a span of 2 months. That's true OEM muscle being flexed. Apple Knows this, hence their request to have the Galaxy devices removed from market.

What an absolute joke. I'm still a little shocked Apple is even suing.

Apple still doesn't have upload to a cloud or wireless syncing, and Windows Phone does. 25 GB free sky drive, as well as a beautiful hub where you choose what to access at a glance.

mobile me does this, and I suspect, it will become free soon (or at least parts of it).

I thought 3G was the coming thing? I am on 3 in OZ and now Vodaphone, Telstra and Optus have all gone 3G- GSM seems a bit old hat doesn't it?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3g
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_System_for_Mobile_Communications

Also comapnies like 3 are trying to compete by offering downloadable songs as a part of their service how will apple deal with this - surely comapnies like 3 won't offer apple phones??

No offence to the US (after all you give us apple , MS, Google ) but whenever I go there I am taken aback at how dated the "cell" (as they still call them there) phone networks are over there compared to Europe or even OZ

Nor does having a 2400 SAT score and confusing "their" with "there", along with various other errors in his writing - which even for a forum are somewhat unacceptable lol.

Still, it's kinda scary that someone with this kind of mindset is allowed to drive. Under no circumstances should you ever even think of running someone off the road.

Regardless if its 5% or should be 10%. This is an initiative that Bono has been after for over a decade.

For most ppl that dont like U2's music, they sure know who they are and respect Bono for his philantropic efforts.

Motorola is doing the same with the RAZR v3i model.

Kinda said how a passionate music artist must make this initiative when countries with HUGE sums of cash prefer military spending in their budgets (Canada included) yet not for world equality for medicine.

This would be a HUGE BONUS for Apple. I'll be buying one for my wife it its true and available in Canada.:D

The idea must delight at&t. Data charges will be very high

What about those many places where 3G is not available
    ....weak reception areas
    ....no reception areas
    ....airplanes, subways,...

Use the album that you downloaded, and synced onto your phone/iPod.

There is NO indication that Apple will not be letting you still download your music. This is a service in ADDITION to what you can already do.

Why is this so hard to grasp?

Out in my neck of the woods we have a pretty well strapped police dept and they DO respond to 911 calls about drunk drivers. In fact, in Cali there's signs all over the place telling you to call 911 to report them. lol :)

Glad I don't live where you do :P

Ok, it's obvious you're very confident behind the handling abilities of your car, so hear me out:

    * What kind of car is it
    * When was the last time you checked your brakes
    * How old are your tires, what kind are they, and when was the last time you checked the tire pressure - what was it?
    * When was the last time you inspected your tire treads and suspension

I hope you can answer some of these questions.

Admittedly, if you don't do any of the above your car might be unsafe at any speed.

I agree that app store is a very generic term, but in order to avoid all the legal troubles and the money and time lost, why not just create your own name?

As someone mentioned earlier, Android did it, and I have never told someone to go to the app store on an Android phone.

I always direct them to the Android Market.

I've been saying a video Airport is apple's best move for months now.

It doesn't seem Apple's style to make wireless n hardware when there is no standard yet, I would think they would make a Media Center Mac, possibly with a built in iPod dock, maybe adding DivX and XVid (or just sticking VLC on the damn thing).

I think a streaming box makes more sense than a media center computer. A MC box is always going to be overpriced for a single purpose box. Why have hundreds of dollars worth of hardware tethered to a TV when you can have a cheap box on the TV and put your pricey computer anywhere in the house?

Makes even more sense if you have multiple TV's in the house - you can have one server box with the hard drives and as many cheaper TV stations all around the house (including things like bringing a laptop into the backyard).

I love my mini, and it's great for TV viewing...but I HATE leaving it hooked up to the TV all the time. The TV makes a terrible monitor for any other computer use, and I just don't want the computer in my TV room.

The device would not make a lot of sense by itself. There is more to this. Most people are waiting for a Media Center system. Sounds like the device would replace some cables that you can get for 40 bucks. I am refering to the cables that allow you to connect your Mac to the TV.

You're missing the point. Most people don't want their computer in the TV room. The TV makes a terrible monitor, and most people don't want it in that room (or have to have a computer monitor next to the TV). This allows having the computer wherever you want.

I don't want to buy a Mac Mini (and then pay twice for every subsequent release OS X).

I'm sure apple would like you to buy two upgrades, but does anyone really do that?

Hmm...I think Belkin calls this 802.11n. This isn't new. Gimme a break. People are really scrounging around deep now.

Read the article again, you missed the point. This isn't just a 802.11n box, it's a box that has VIDEO outs (plus hopefully a remote, and even Front Row). Do the belkin boxes do that? Don't think so.

why would I want to pay someone $17 an hour to a job a monkey is almost qualified to do? Sounds like an opportunity to hire less people, or jack my prices up. A job is worth simply what a job is worth. Period. If I'm trying to offer services at competitive prices, and someone is willing to bag groceries for $3 an hour, then they should be ALLOWED to. Rather than me just choose to hire nobody and using automated checkouts.

What happens then? More people outside the country find jobs, and prices go down. $3 dollars suddenly buys you a subway sandwich. # of consumers goes up bc more people outside the country are employed, which brings in more revenue at the cost of local jobs, causes more hiring outside the country etc.

Fixed that for you. What you are talking about is a race to the bottom. Consuming is not a self-sustaining model.

All new Macbook Pro. The thing you were waiting for.

New, razor thin design. With Unibody introduction, we have removed the soft plastic bezel around the corners, so that you could be hurt by sharp edges more easily. Now we take another step forward —*now, the cutting edge is really cutting. The edge of the new Macbook Pro is so thin it can slice bread, and your weiner can be sliced too.

The Apple technology was always hot. And now we take “hot” to yet another level. Previously hot as in “hot chicks,” it's now also hot as in “hot chocolate.” A case this thin ought to grow extremely hot. If you have the balls to put your laptop in your lap, they will be fried deep in mere five minutes.

SSDs everywhere. Man, this is the next cool thing. Now we put SSDs anywhere, with no other options to consider. The whole whopping 256 GBs of SSD in all new Macbook Pros! Forget about the days when you were wondering what to do with all that free space on that bulky, clumsy and old 1000 GB HDD. Now you will have one hassle less with our proprietary 256 GB SSDs. See how blazing fast it is on our specially crafted tests, and never mind Logic Pro giving you “The disk is too slow!” alert now and then.

We also ditch Firewire for USB and Thunderbolt everywhere. Throw away your old faithful and perfectly working recording rig which you've once sold your house to buy. You won't need it anymore with USB, which is high speed enough (never mind it stutters and loses data under heavy load and full duplex data exchange, especially via a hub which you will require because we've given you only one port), and with Thunderbolt which is even faster (and which you don't have any peripherals for).

As if previous Macbook screens were not glossy enough, we both increase the resolution and applying more gloss all over our displays, never mind you'll need a new pair of eyes to see anything on them and that they have a 6-bit DAC, but man, they are so sexy on our marketing photos! You are already feeling an immediate urge to buy one. We also ditch the matte option; who needs it when you have so sexy glossy displays?

With shiny new apps, we have merged iOS and Mac OS X 10.8 Рussу. It has no Unix legacy. Why use grep, sed, awk or diff, when you can have the glossy apps all over your glossy screen? Admit it, you don't need a powerful tool when all you do is posting <excrements> on your Facebook profile. It just works with apps. Pros? Who just said “Pros?” This is just a money name.

Enjoy your new Macbook Pro. We'll enjoy your money and watch you crawl to us, asking for more.

If you read my post more carefully you'll understand I was referring to the people who play games on the 11". As far as I'm concerned, working on a laptop with an external monitor plugged in is an exception (rare) and not something common.

As far as you're concerned maybe, but as far as what's common or not, you're out of it. There's a reason every laptop out there has some kind of external display connector.

But silly me, I must be a moron for using the mini display port right ?

Perhaps you mean it is capable of everything you need it to do. I used to have a laptop as a single computer at my home. It resembled a Christmas tree pretty much - it had an USB optical mouse, a printer, external speakers, a Yamaha keyboard, card reader and power cord plugged in. I was always plugging and unplugging cables whenever I wanted to move it to another place. Thank goodness I did not come to the idea to attach an external monitor to it.

You're doing it wrong. I plug in 4 cables. Power, Monitor, Speakers, USB. My keyboard/mouse/tablet/Printer/iPhone/iPod all get recognized instantly. That's what the USB hub on my desk is for. 1 cable, all devices.

If Apple had docks, it would be even better. Just drop the laptop in place and voila. But I guess docks just aren't esthetic enough.

There is nothing uncommon about it, so again, thank you for calling me stupid because I dare use a MBA as my only computer and I dare launch games on it, while connected to an external monitor of all things!

Keep your insults for yourself next time.

I was under the understanding that the reason that the current 320M has been so impressive considering the aging Duel Core CPU was the increased speed of data transfer from the SSD meaning a large increase in efficiency in both the CPU and the GPU.

Hum, no. The SSD is still a bottleneck compared to the bus speeds between the CPU and GPU. The 320M is impressive because the Intel GPU is so sub-par. Even a full power Sandy Bridge Intell 3000 HD barely compares to it, and then, only in benchmarks where the CPU is the bottleneck and the C2D is holding back the 320M. In pure GPU bottlenecked benchmarks, the 320M trumps the Intel 3000HD.

That's just the story with Intel. They always sucked at GPUs.

Jeff LaMarche's (co-author of "Beginning iPhone Development") take on this situation:

    http://iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2009/11/rogue-amoeba.html

I definitely can see both sides of the argument. And I speak from personal experience. One of my company's apps, CraigsHarvest, was rejected for a similar reason: we had included a cropped version of the Setting app icon in our help file, in order to better direct our users to where to changes their settings. But Apple rejected it because we were using their icon. So, we complied and removed its usage.

But there has to be some kinda happy, middle-ground here. There already are a number of Apple-owned icons that we are allowed (in fact, encouraged) to use, such as Compose, Action, Bookmark (see below attached images). Maybe Apple could expand the range of images, icons, etc. they own that we, as developers, could be allowed to use.

And Gruber's response to this response:

    http://daringfireball.net/2009/11/airfoil_touch_situation

Sorry, but imho there is absolutely *no* reason to defend Apple here.
